During the Easter season we celebrate the good news that Jesus has risen from the dead and is now alive.

The Eucharistic Congress, to be held in Dublin from 12 – 17 June, has been prepared on many different fronts and by a wide variety of dedicated professionals, several of them on long-term secondment from their day jobs for a prolonged period, and even more volunteers, for between eighteen months and two years.

An onslaught of sleet and snow, combined with a bitterly cold wind caused the cancellation of the annual Chrism Mass procession of priests and deacons from parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Birmingham on the Wednesday of Holy Week, 4 April 2012.

This year more than 400 people from various Christian traditions, the largest number so far, took part in the fifth annual Good Friday Walk of Witness through the centre of the City of Birmingham, on 6 April, a bright but rather cold day.

Archbishop Bernard Longley used the occasion of the annual Easter Monday Men’s Mass, at the Metropolitan Cathedral and Basilica of St Chad, Birmingham, to reiterate clearly and unequivocally that: ‘Marriage and family life go side by side in the Christian tradition.’

Pastoral Letter for the 5th Sunday of Lent, 24-25 March 2012 from Archbishop Bernard Longley, Archbishop of Birmingham.

His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Mennini, Apostolic Nuncio to Great Britain, was given a brief but detailed insight into the life and work of the Archdiocese of Birmingham, during a delightfully informal two-day visit, on Thursday, 1 March, and Friday 2 March, the Feast of St Chad, Patron of the Diocese.

St John Fisher Catholic College and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newcastle-under-Lyme enjoyed the momentous honour of a visit on 2 March from His Grace Archbishop Bernard Longley and His Excellency Archbishop Antonio Mennini, the Papal Nuncio.

Fairtrade Fortnight has come and gone for another year. Does that mean that we can forget Fairtrade until 2013? Hopefully the answer is a resounding NO! Certainly that would be the response of the Birmingham Diocesan Justice & Peace Commission, who would dearly like to see the Birmingham Archdiocese become a Fairtrade Diocese.

Linda Carty says she's innocent - but she's behind bars waiting for an execution date. Joanna Moorhead travelled to Texas to meet her, and to find out what UK Catholics can do to help save her life.

Archbishop Bernard Longley warmly welcomed Candidates, Catechumens, and their parish priests, from more than 60 parishes represented from throughout the Archdiocese of Birmingham, on Sunday afternoon, 27 February.
