In response to the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Crackley Hall School’s Student Council decided to take action.

On 10 March Mother Abbess went to Rome for the Monastic Formators’ Program, a course for those who will be teaching the next generation of monks and nuns: studying the Rule of St Benedict, Scripture, Desert Fathers and much more.


The tragedy of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines has touched the hearts of many people across the world, but perhaps a less well known consequence of this disaster was the manner in which it shook the thousands of Filipino seafarers who work on cruise ships, away from family for months at a time.

It’s hard to believe it, but we’re almost at the end of the first term of our second year at the Venerable English College. We keep the Archdiocese in our prayers, please keep us in yours. Here we want to share some of our experiences this term so far.

Trustees and staff at Father Hudson’s Society, the social care agency of the Diocese, were delighted to hear that retired Director of the Society, Kevin Caffrey, was awarded a MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for his services to social care through the Father Hudson’s Society in Birmingham.

Last Sunday October 27 the Archdiocese of Birmingham remembered Blessed Dominic Barberi in a special way on the anniversary of his Beatification, as priests and people gathered to celebrate across the Archdiocese.

Last October Pope Benedict inaugurated a ‘Year of Faith’, fifty years after the second Vatican Council, so that Catholics could embrace a fresh the spirit of the council and equip themselves anew to share the Good News in our day.

The Year of Faith has encouraged us all to step out and declare the truths of what we truly believe. This summer, over two thousand children and young people from fourteen different primary and secondary schools came together, in the Birmingham Symphony Hall, to proclaim their Faith.

The Archbishop of Birmingham gave his official blessing to the school’s new £7.5 million facilities after celebrating Mass with 400 pupils on Thursday 19 September.
