On Wednesday 25th June, priests and parishioners of the diocese gathered together at St Chad’s Cathedral for Mass and a celebration of thanksgiving for those receiving Ubi Caritas awards. There were 15 people awarded on this evening: Peter Capper, Peter Chetwin, Judy Elliot, Judith Gent, Colin and Winnie Hobson, Mary Hulme, Claire Rutter, Amanda Kelly, Rita Lownes, Lynne Marshall, Vera Redfern, Cecilia Shaw, Eric Shelton and Emmanuel Zammitt. The Mass was celebrated and the awards presented by Archbishop Vincent.
In his homily Archbishop Vincent said that people often go out of their way to thank him and that many priests have this experience as well. On this evening, however, the tables were to be turned in order to thank 15 parishioners for the way they live their lives and take part in the community.
