After the event everyone was treated to a buffet reception and were entertained by the Jazz Band from St Augustine’s High School. The jazz band and school choir have come on in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years under the guidance of their music teacher, Chris Long, appointed four years ago. In 2007 the band and 70-strong choir performed in Rome; in 2008 at St Paul’s Cathedral at a lunch-time recital; and this July they will be performing in Barcelona Cathedral.
Fr Tony Joyce, the parish priest said, ‘It was a real occasion for the parish and brought many aspects of the parish together including the well established Polish community and the more recent Keralan community. It was a really joyous celebration.’
